Home of the Wolverines
The Wolverines closed out the regular season at Franconia Park with the Gunston Festival that featured all five teams in the District. The girls team was 2nd in the team standings and the boys team placed 3rd. It was a strong finish for many of the runners, who placed well and put together fast performances!
Sophomore Olivia Helal led the way for the Lady Wolverines and put together one of her best races of the season as she moved up throughout the race to close strong and finish 8th overall in 21:56. Sophomore Annabelle O’Bryan, senior captains Mary Kate Savage and Cat Fidd crossed the line with a tight spread, placing 10th-12th respectively to keep the team score low. Senior Siena Joy ran strong through the last mile to round out the team score and put the Lady Wolverines in a solid 2nd place, placing 15th individually. Adding to the depth of the team’s performance were the 6th and 7th runners for the team with Ann Duke (16th) and Gillian Torza (17th) to put the team’s entire top 7 in the top 20!
In the boys race the team was led by underclassmen with freshman Robert Lamb placing 12th overall. Following Lamb was classmate Harper Casey, finishing 20th and closing strong was sophomore James Duke (22nd). Completing the score for West Potomac boys was the freshman trio of Zachary Lydon (32nd), Carson Lynch (34th) and Ryan Bowers (35th). The team had their top 7 in the top 40 of the race and were all under 20 minutes with Jonah Starnichak (37th) and Camden Mounts (38th) running well. The boys team was 3rd behind Hayfield ad T.C. Williams.
Congratulations to all our runners, it was exciting to see so many strong performances across the board!
