Girls Varsity Field Hockey
It is vital for the success of our program that all players try to do as much playing/development of skills that they can. There are a number of different spring outdoor opportunities that players can do.
- Beyond Sticks – Spring developmental sessions - http://beyondsticks.com/development-program/
- Burke Athletic Club - Field hockey for rising 9th graders
- Capital Summer League (not really summer as it starts at the end of the school year) – more info to come
- Club Field Hockey opportunities – more information to come
Another great way to improve field hockey skills is to attend summer camp. Going to a camp (or more than one camp) is an excellent way to gain confidence and skills and if you go with a group of players, makes the overall team that much better. The team camp that we would like to attend is the University of Maryland camp (http://www.marylandfieldhockeycamp.com/) for the first session. Again, if this doesn’t fit your plans, pick another camp and go to that. If you need recommendations, please Coach Hubbard know
Lastly, the summer is a busy time and I know that this is the time that everyone plans vacations. Tryouts will begin the beginning of August It is important that all players are present at all tryouts and practices in August, so please try to plan accordingly.
There will be a field hockey interest meeting for both JV and Varsity, on May 31st at 3:10 in room 171. We will discuss summer expectations/opportunities, camp information and tryout information.
Please see Coach Hubbard if you have any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Field Hockey tryouts will begin on August 1st and run through August 7th (Tues-Friday and Monday). Tryouts will be held on the WPHS practice field from 7-9am. Players MUST have a yellow card to tryout. A yellow card is issued by the athletic office and in order to receive a yellow card, players must turn in a completed emergency care card, VHSL physical, and have completed the concussion education (along with a parent completing the concussion education). More information on tryouts can be found under team files. Please let Coach Hubbard know if you have any questions.
